1. We "tune-in" with the Adi Mantra:
ONG NAMO GURU DEV NAMO (I call on my divine teacher/light within).
2. Warm-ups and KRIYA
3. RELAXATION (GONG often played)
4. MEDIATATION
5. Closing: "The Longtime Sunshine Song" (An Irish Folk tune).
The foundation of the physical practice of Kundlaini Yoga is the Kriya-- a set of movements designed for a particular purpose/outcome. The Kriyas are thousand of Years old, originating from the Tantric yogic tradition.
Kundalini Yoga integrates breathing techniques in every Kriya. Whether Breath of Fire or Long Slow and Deep, breathing is the first key to unlock our soul's vitality.
Principles to Remember about Breath:➢ The mind follows the breath, and
body follows the mind. Your rate of breathing and your state of mind are inseparable.
➢ The slower your rate of breathing, the more control you have over your mind.
Every Kriya in Kundalini Yoga stimulates and balances the nervous system. Spinal flexing combined with breath techniques, mudra, and internal locks, balance the hemispheres of the brain. The Meditations with Mantra prompt the pituitary gland to secrete hormones that affect all systems--physical, energetic, subtle.
The Yoga of Awareness:
Awareness of the physical body--sensations of energy, tense or relaxed muscles, sensory noticing, visualization.
Awareness of the mind/emotions--recognizing mind loops and commotion.
Awareness of the subtle body--attune "pranic signature", listening to intuition, developing the neutral mind or "non-reactivity."
Meditation IS YOGA
Meditation stimulates and carefully supports the mind, guiding the body through the use of breath, mantra, mudra, and focus. The range and variety of meditation techniques is truly extraordinary in KY. There are meditations that reduce stress, work on addictions, increase vitality, and clear chakras, to name a few. Many, many styles and approaches to meditation exist. In Kundalini Yoga we meditate after a Kriya set and Relaxation.
Meditation and mindfulness are powerful tools for cultivating inner peace and calm. Join us for a meditation class or workshop and learn how to quiet your mind and connect with your inner self. Mantra meditation stimulates and balances the brain and neuroendocrine system.
After the Kriya, we relax in savasana to integrate its benefits. Often the gong is played.
Deep relaxation restores all systems and allows for integration of all the subtle and physical changes initiated by yoga postures, breath techniques, and meditation.
While movement allows the cells to gather information about threats to the body, stillness and deep relaxation allow the cells of the immune system to rest and coordinate. Full body rest gives the immune cells an opportunity to coordinate and creates the most efficient immune response.
Fine-tune your practice:
Mudras--hand gestures--create energetic circuits that distribute healing effects.
Bandha--lock or internal iscometric hold manipulate energy flow.
Eye-Focus--Deepens yogic movements & meditation throughout the body, particularly the brain.
